Spring is here... or there! C'est le printemps... ailleurs!

A good part of the blogs I read talk about Spring. I read many posts about snow melting, flowers blooming, folks looking forward to picnics and the outdoors. Some demonstrate the human urge to redecorate, clean their house, get or update their wardrobes, move on to new colors and lighter fabrics.

Here's one example, from ikat bag! Isn't that a cute project?

When I lived in France, Spring was a big ado. My mother would open the house up, pack up all the Winter cloths and bring out the mid-deason ones. My father would get busy in his garden and diligently put away those boxes of warm clothing until next Fall. We would rediscover all our "nice weather" things, forgotten during the cold months.

South Florida, along with those hot and humid tropical areas, present a different picture. While the space heaters that we barely used do get put away, our wardrobe doesn't change much. Oh yes, it's now "allowed" to wear white shoes. Shoes? What shoes? When I look in our closets, I see more sandals and flip-flops than real shoes.
Spring also means that the air conditioner is now on for many months. Time to close the house, pull down the blinds. close the insulated draperies to protect us from the blinding sun. Seek the shade and never, ever go out without your sunglasses. April and May are those transitional months where the rainy season has not yet started (and it shows in the yards!), but the heat is on (sing along, yes, it's a song), and the mosquitoes are back in force! And we're back to preparing for another hurricane season!

For my friends on the other side of the equator, the story is yet different. They're looking at Fall weather.

So, wherever you are, whatever the weather is doing, I wish you all a Happy Spring or Fall!

N'oubliez as vos lunettes de soleil!
